An eyelet — also called a grommet in some markets — is a small but structurally critical metal ring that reinforces holes in leather, fabric, and webbing. Its primary job is to prevent material tearing around cord openings, drawstring channels, and strap attachment points. A poorly manufactured eyelet will have sharp internal edges that fray threads and cut through leather over time. A: For 2mm leather, we recommend an eyelet with a 2.5–3mm barrel length — the extra 0.5–1mm allows for clean flaring on the reverse side. Inner diameter depends on your cord or strap width; typically, 6–10mm ID covers most bag applications.
